KAMC’s Storm Team Meteorologist Alex O’Brien has the forecast for 5.3.19.
TODAY: Another cloudy and drizzley start on this Friday. A jacket will still be needed today, and maybe chose a waterproof one! There is a 40% chance of thunderstorms this evening, with a marginal risk of severe weather. Clouds will break up a bit this afternoon, leading to highs in the upper 60s and low 70s. Then aorund 4 pm thunderstorms develop near the Texas/New Mexico state line, and move east through the evening. Lubbock may see thunderstorms around dinner-time. Most will be general thunderstorms, with isolated strong to severe storms.
THIS WEEKEND: Temperatures will warm each day this weekend, to the mid 70s Saturday and low 80s Sunday. Evening thunderstorm chances remain both days as well. Saturday the best chance will be in the northwest South Plains. A more widespread thunderstorm chance returns by Sunday evening.
