KAMC’s Storm Team Meteorologist Alex O’Brien has the forecast for 5.31.18.
TODAY: Another record heat day is expected. A HEAT ADVISORY is in place from 1 to 8 pm for Lubbock, Crosby, Terry, Lynn, Kent, Garza, Gaines, Dawson, Borden, and Scurry counties. Temperatures will reach near or above 105 degrees again today. Hazards include heat related illness, especially for elderly and children. I recommend completely errands outside of the heat advisory time frame today. And if you work outdoors, take breaks in the shade and drink lots of water! The forecast high in Lubbock is 104 degrees, but remember under pavement and concrete within the city, temperatures can feel even hotter.
TOMORROW: Friday will bring likely the peak in heating for this week. The entire South Plains is likely to see at least 100 degrees. The forecast in Lubbock Friday is 106. In the afternoon there is a 10% chance of thunderstorms. Storms will be very isolated and accumulations of rain will likely be less than 0.10″ as most rainfall will evaporate before reaching the ground. This activity comes before a cold front expected by Saturday morning.
THIS WEEKEND: Saturday, a weak cold front moves in. That will help to suppress the heat a bit, to 96 Saturday and 90 Sunday. In general, the front will be dry but there is an isolated evening thunderstorm chance on Sunday. No severe weather is expected.
