TODAY: This week will bring the heat. We expect high temperatures in the 90s through Saturday. Today the forecast high for Lubbock is 93 degrees, with widespread low to mid 90s in the South Plains. There will be plenty of sunshine today and we remain dry with relative humidity likely to drop less than 15% this afternoon. Wind will be light to breezy at times from the southwest 15-20 mph. With these conditions, a RED FLAG WARNING is in place from 1 – 7 pm for high fire danger. Dispose of cigarettes properly and outdoor burning is not allowed.
TOMORROW: The heat remains with highs expected in the low to mid 90s again. Tuesday’s high is forecast at 94 degrees in Lubbock. But, a small disturbance in the upper atmosphere will give us partly cloudy conditions and a 10% chance of showers and thunderstorms in the afternoon. Much of the moisture will the showers that develop may evaporate. Some lightning is possible with these isolated storms.
