KAMC’s Storm Team Meteorologist Alex O’Brien has the forecast for 6.1.18.
TODAY: The final day of excessive heat is expected today. The forecast for Lubbock is 106 degrees with plenty of sunshine. A HEAT ADVISORY is in place from 1 to 8 pm for Lubbock, Crosby, Terry, Lynn, Kent, Garza, Gaines, Dawson, Borden, and Scurry counties. Temperatures will reach near or above 105 degrees again today. Hazards include heat related illness, especially for elderly and children. A dryline sets up in the central South Plains today and may potentially allow thunderstorm development. The eastern half of the region is under a marginal risk of severe weather, with hail and gusty wind possible. This threat is minimal and storms will be widely scattered.
THIS WEEKEND: A cold front will move through the area Saturday morning. This front will be dry and breezy and will help suppress the heat. The forecast high Saturday is 96 degrees with lots of sunshine. On Sunday, we will be even cooler at 89 degrees. There is a slight chance of isolated rain showers Sunday night into Monday morning.
