KAMC’s Storm Team Meteorologist Alex O’Brien has the forecast for 6.20.18.
TODAY: An early morning front moved through the area this morning from the panhandle, with light rain showers. The forecast today is dependent on that front. Best case scenario is the front will stall in the Lubbock area, and followed by daytime heating will prompt redevelopment of thunderstorms in the early afternoon. The worst case scenario is the front continues to move south and exit the region, leaving us without a source of lift and thus no rain! For the time being, we are still keeping a 20% chance of thunderstorms redevelopment this afternoon between noon and 6 pm for the central and southern half of the region.
TOMORROW: Thursday is the summer solstice and the longest day of the year for the northern hemisphere! The sunrise is at 6:38 am and the sunset is at 9:01 pm. We will be mostly dry and seasonable in the low 90s. Winds will start out of the northeast and gradually turn to the east through the day. The forecast high is 90 degrees in Lubbock.
THIS WEEKEND: Through the end of the week into the weekend we will dry out and warm up significantly. Friday will be in the upper 90s at 99 degrees in Lubbock. The triple digits will return on Saturday and Sunday. Stay safe in the sun and find a way to beat the heat this weekend!
