KAMC’s Storm Team Meteorologist Alex O’Brien has the forecast for 6.21.18.
TODAY: Summer began at 5:07 this morning and today will be the longest day of the year with 14 hours and 22 minutes of sunlight! Temperatures will be seasonable in the low to mid 90s. The forecast for Lubbock is 92 degrees. The sky will be mostly sunny with light winds from the south. Overnight there is a 10% chance of thunderstorms, for the northern third of the South Plains. Storms will initiate in northeast New Mexico and will slowly move southeast into the panhandle overnight. Impacts should be minimal for Lubbock.
TOMORROW: The heat will increase Friday to the upper 90s and low 100s. The forecast for Lubbock is 100 degrees, but most of the South Plains will remain in the upper 90s today. The sky will be sunny and there will be a slight breeze on Friday afternoon.
THIS WEEKEND: This weekend will be HOT! Triple digits are likely each day, at 100 Saturday and Sunday. Find a way to beat the heat and practice heat safety tips! Never leave a loved one (human or animal) in a parked car. Also, make sure to lather on the sunscreen and drink plenty of water.
