KAMC’s Storm Team Meteorologist Alex O’Brien has the forecast for 7.17.18.
TODAY: The summer-like heat continues to increase today. The forecast for Lubbock is 97 degrees with mostly sunny conditions. The wind will be from the south 5-10 mph. Temperatures across the South Plains will be in the mid 90s on the Caprock to the upper 90s east.
TOMORROW: Triple digits are likely to start popping up by Wednesday. With urban heat island effects in play, Lubbock will likely hit 100 degrees tomorrow. Most of the Caprock will be hovering between 98 and 100, with over 100 possible in the eastern South Plains. Wind will be light to breezy from the south 10-15 mph. Clouds will be a rarity.
LOOKING AHEAD: Temperatures will stay in the triple digits through the weekend, and Thursday and Friday in particular will be very hot. Stay hydrated! Heat-related injuries can occur on sidewalks and on playground equipment, which can burn paws and toes of pets and children.
