KAMC’s Storm Team Meteorologist Alex O’Brien has the forecast for 7.20.18.
TODAY: The National Weather Service in Lubbock has continued the HEAT ADVISORY for the Texas South Plains today until 9 pm. Avoid strenuous activities outdoors. Stay hydrated and stay in the air conditioning today! Check on elderly neighbors and relatives, and NEVER leave a child or animal alone in a parked car. Temperatures may reach 105 to 110 degrees today and lows tonight will be in the mid to upper 70s. The forecast for Lubbock is 105 degrees, and the near 110 mark will be possible east of the Caprock today.
THIS WEEKEND: Still expect to be hot, but likely below heat advisory levels this weekend. Saturday the forecast is 103 degrees in Lubbock and Sunday likely at 102 degrees. There will be plenty of sunshine, with a few more clouds on Sunday.
LOOKING AHEAD: Relief is in sight by next week! A mostly dry cold front will move through the South Plains on Monday night, cooling temperatures back to the seasonable low to mid 90s. There is a limited rain chance, at 10% Tuesday and Wednesday. The main weather factor though with this cold front will be decreased temperatures and more clouds.
