We’re looking at mainly clear conditions out there now. Thin clouds are passing through the South & Rolling Plains at this time. However, by the afternoon, the skies will be sunny & wind will be on the increase. Sustained wind is going to be at 10-20 mph, gusting to 35 mph. The air will also be very dry, so there will be a high fire danger out there. Lubbock’s high will reach 83°, just shy of the record of 84°.

Saturday is looking to be the warmest day of the year, so far. There will be an upper-level ridge in high gear throughout the day. This will cause skies to be bright blue & sunny. Wind is going to be at 15-20 mph, gusting, at times, to 40 mph. Lubbock’s record high is 85°, set in 1962. That will not last. The forecast high for tomorrow is 89°. I would not be surprised to see locations get to 90° in the Rolling Plains.
