KLBK AM Weather February 23, 2017

Expect another spring-like afternoon, after a near record-tying day on Wednesday. The upper-level ridge of high pressure is still clinging to west Texas, but will be shoved out of the way by tonight. As the low pressure system & cold front approach from the northwest, the wind will increase drastically today. We’ll see sunny skies, with highs in the low 80s. But the wind is going to be from the west-southwest at 25-35 mph, gusting to 50 mph all afternoon long. So, we’ll see blowing dust mixing with the blue skies.

That strong cold front will move in overnight, dropping temperatures down into the mid 30s by tomorrow morning. We’ll see lows in the upper 20s for the northwestern counties. The wind will still be howling tomorrow, as that cold front pushes farther east. The skies will stay blue, mixed with blowing dust, as the wind will gust to 40 mph. Otherwise, Lubbock will see a cooler afternoon, with a high of 64°, feeling more like the mid 50s.
