KLBK AM Weather May 9, 2017

Good morning. We’re looking at cloudy skies so far to start this Tuesday. Most of the day will see the clouds dominate, with a few peeks of sunshine. You’ll notice that it’s muggy outside. There is ample moisture streaming in from the southeast. We also have wind that is turning clockwise with height, there is lift coming this evening and we have wind splitting in different directions at the upper levels. Those are all ingredients for severe thunderstorms. We’ll see severe storms along the state line from 5:00-8:00 pm. They’ll move east after that.

Storms will begin to affect the Lubbock metro some time between 8:00 pm-10:00 pm. That will be the first round of storms. These have the possibility to produce golf ball size hail, or larger. The tornado threat will be along the state line this evening. That tornado threat will shift east after midnight. We’ll see more storms near Lubbock from midnight-9:00 am. These storms will, once again, have golf ball size hail, or larger and isolated tornadoes.
