Cold front number two of the week has gone through the area & continues to push south. Behind it, the wind has shifted to the northeast, bringing in colder air. Now, with the wind staying elevated at 10-15 mph, the temperatures have not been able to plunge down into the 30s & 40s. Lubbock is in at 55° right now, with low & upper 40s to the northwest. This afternoon will remain sunny & breezy, with Lubbock seeing a high of 70°.
Overnight, the wind will become light. That, along with clear skies, is a perfect recipe for radiational cooling. We’ll watch temperatures plummet to the mid 30s along the state line, with Lubbock dropping down to 41°. By tomorrow afternoon, there will still be sunny skies all over the South & Rolling Plains. Highs will be higher than today, but just below our average of 74°. In fact, Lubbock will see a high of 73° for your Friday.
