Today: A fast moving cold front has pushed through the South Plains, cooling temperatures behind it. Temperatures will climb to near 90 degrees today, which is below normal for this time of year. This cold front has shifted winds to NE 5-15 mph. We are already seeing some showers and storms in the Rolling Plains, and storms will continue to develop throughout the rest of the day. Expect brief heavy rain, lightning, and strong wind gusts with these storms. Stay aware of any flooding issues, especially in the Southern South Plains including Gaines, Dawson, Borden, and Scurry counties. These areas are under a Flash Flood Watch until Sunday morning.
Tonight: Mostly cloudy conditions will continue overnight with showers and storms. Temperatures will drop into the upper 60s. NE wind 5-15 mph.
Extended: This front will become stationary to the south of our region, which means the southernmost counties will continue to have the best chance for any rain throughout the day on Saturday. Dry air will start to filter in by Saturday evening and conditions will turn mostly dry on Sunday, continuing into the beginning of next week. Temperatures will also stay below average for the week ahead, only making it to the upper 80s.
Make it a great weekend!
