Temperatures will climb slightly on Wednesday, as we try to get some warmer air into the South Plains. That warmer air will be limited, as we only reach a high of 50°. With the wind blowing at 15-20 mph, the air is going to feel much colder, more like the low & mid 40s in the area. So, have the jackets & gloves ready, as it will feel chilly out there. Skies will be mostly sunny, but don’t be fooled!
The strongest cold front since last winter is going to blast through the region by Thursday morning. Actual temperatures will drop way down to 18° in Lubbock & there will be some spots getting close to single digit readings in the northwestern counties. So, have the heat going, take care of the elderly & the homeless. This is going to be some dangerous cold air. The sun will shine Thursday, but the high will only get to 35°.
