A strong low pressure system will drop down from the Rockies Thursday night & Friday morning & park itself just south of El Paso. We’ll get much colder air flowing into the South & Rolling Plains for Friday & Saturday. Highs will drop into the upper 30s. There will be rain showers expanding east during the day, beginning in the Rolling Plains by mid-morning & affecting Lubbock Friday afternoon.

From midnight-noon Saturday, any rain will freeze on elevated surfaces from Plainview & north. There will be very light, if any ice, on roadways. You should still be cautious while driving on Saturday morning. By the afternoon, the precipitation will be all rain for 50% of the area. There could even be heavy rain at times. Highs will be in the upper 30s, so bundle up, stay warm & drive safe over the weekend.
