August 17th, 2017 Evening Weather

Happy Thursday everyone! It has been another sunny and hot start to the day with temperatures remaining in the low to mid-90’s. However, the cold front that stalled out over the South Plains yesterday will retreat North today allowing for more instability and another chance for showers and thunderstorms. Right now the Storm Prediction Center has placed the Northern South Plains under the Marginal Risk Category for severe storms. The biggest threats will be large hail, damaging wind gusts, and flooding so make sure to stay weather aware. Drive with caution and if you see pooling water, remember to turn around, don’t drown. Temperatures will remain around average for the remainder of the work week and into the weekend. Storm chances will diminish by Sunday which will thankfully leave nice conditions for the solar eclipse on Monday.
