August 3rd, 2017 Evening Weather

Happy Thursday everyone! After a sunny and warm start to the day, we watch for our next cold front to push into the region this afternoon. Rain will start out light and scattered but a more organized line of showers and thunderstorms will push in during the late evening and overnight hours. The Storm Prediction Center has placed the Northwestern South Plains under the Marginal Risk Category. Biggest threats in this region will be small hail, strong wind gusts, heavy downpours, and localized flooding. Make sure to drive with caution and if you see pooling water, remember to turn around, don’t drown. Storm chances will begin to diminish over the weekend which will allow temperatures to heat back up into the 90’s on Saturday and Sunday. This will be short-lived though as another front pushes in Sunday evening which will bring more rain and another cool down to the area.
