Happy Wednesday everyone! It has been a downright cold day across the South Plains with most locations unable to surpass the freezing mark. The dense deck of clouds that took over the region yesterday will stick around for the remainder of the day and slowly start to dissipate this evening. As these clouds burn off, high pressure will take over and we will see a quick warm up in our afternoon highs for the next two days. Thursday temperatures will move into the low 60’s and then into the mid to upper 60’s on Friday. Enjoy the warmth while you can because our next dose of cold Arctic air will move in just in time for the end of 2017 and the start of 2018. Temperatures will drop just below average into the upper 40’s and low 50’s on Saturday with a much larger drop for New Years Eve and New Years Day into the 30’s. We are also watching for a slight chance of wintry precipitation over the holiday so make sure to stay tuned for updates. Despite the temperatures fluctuations throughout the next week, low temperatures will remain below the freezing mark every day so make sure to keep your pets and potted plants indoors and to turn sprinklers off to prevent a multitude of issues on the roadways.
