Happy Friday everyone! It has been a much warmer day across the South Plains with highs moving into the upper 60’s and low 70’s. This is all due to the high pressure system that took over the region. This rapid warm up will be very short-lived though as we watch for two fronts to push across the area this weekend bringing us another dose of cold Arctic air. The first, weaker front will move in on Saturday dropping our highs into the mid-40’s. The second, stronger front will then move in on Sunday. This will be our thermal game-changer. High temperatures will struggle to get past the freezing mark on Sunday afternoon and low temperatures on your New Year’s Day will plummet into the single digits. It will also bring a chance for wintry precipitation on your New Year’s Eve so make sure to drive with caution and watch for icy patches on the roadways. Despite the temperatures fluctuations throughout the next week, low temperatures will remain below the freezing mark every day so make sure to keep your pets and potted plants indoors and to turn sprinklers off to prevent a multitude of issues on the roadways.
