February 15th, 2018 Evening Weather

Happy Thursday everyone! We have had a warm and partly sunny day across the South Plains with highs back in the upper 70’s and low 80’s. It has also been a very windy day with blowing dust expected to stick around throughout the evening hours. The big headline of our forecast arrives this evening as our next front starts to push into the region. This will bring a drastic drop in temperatures, overcast conditions, and it will bring us our first chance for precipitation in 100 days! Precipitation chances will be light and scattered tonight and throughout much of the day on Friday, with Friday night into Saturday being our best window for more widespread precipitation. During the early morning hours on Friday and Saturday, models continue to show low temperatures remaining above the freezing mark – but not by much. This means there is a possibility for a mix of liquid rain and wintry precipitation during these time frames. Temperatures will only reach into the low 40’s for your highs on Friday afternoon so make sure to keep your jackets handy. By Saturday afternoon, precipitation chances will cease and sunshine will return to the forecast. Temperatures will rebound quickly over the weekend and we will see more sunshine and windy conditions return with another warm start to next week.
