Happy Wednesday everyone! We had a few showers and thunderstorms move across the region early this morning bringing some gusty winds and a small amount of rain. As we continue into this afternoon and this evening, sunshine will take over, but we are watching for another small chance of some pop up thunderstorms, some of which could be strong to severe. The Storm Prediction Center has placed the Eastern South Plains under the Marginal Risk Category with the biggest threats being strong wind gusts and moderate to large hail so make sure to stay weather aware! Precipitation chances will continue on and off on Thursday and Friday, but thankfully we are not expecting anything severe after today. The slow moving cold front that is pushing into the South Plains this afternoon is the trigger for these storms firing up as well as the moderator of our temperatures. Unfortunately this will not last long, with temperatures quickly rising into the triple digits Friday through Sunday with abundant sunshine taking over the forecast. That means that it is still important to wear sunscreen, stay hydrated, and take breaks indoors during peak heating hours. Also, make sure to bring your pets inside during those peak heating hours and keep them hydrated throughout the day.
