Happy FINALLY Friday everyone! It has been another beautiful day across the South Plains with highs back in the mid-90’s and abundant sunshine across the region! However, as we head into this evening, we are watching for our next chance for showers and thunderstorms, some of which could be strong to severe. The Storm Prediction Center has placed the majority of the South Plains under the Marginal Risk category with the biggest threats being large hail and damaging wind gusts so make sure to stay weather aware. Storms will continue on and off throughout the weekend, ending early Monday morning. Due to our increased storm chances and therefore increased cloud cover, we will see a slight drop in temperatures over the weekend. This will be short-lived though with temperatures heating back into the upper 90’s and triple digits by Monday afternoon and abundant sunshine returning to the forecast. This will remain the case throughout much of next week which means we are expecting hot and sunny conditions for your Fourth of July holiday! Don’t forget to wear sunscreen, stay hydrated, and take breaks indoors during peak heating hours! Also, make sure to bring your pets inside during those peak heating hours and keep them hydrated throughout the day.
