Happy FINALLY Friday everyone! It has been another sunny and hot day across the South Plains with highs remaining in the upper 90’s. With the dry line draped across the Texas/New Mexico border, we are expecting another chance for showers and thunderstorms this afternoon through early tomorrow morning in the Western and Central South Plains. The Storm Prediction Center has placed us under the Marginal Risk Category for strong to severe storms with large hail and damaging wind gusts as our biggest threats so make sure to stay weather aware. Saturday looks like a pretty quiet day, which means nice weather for the Texas Tech Super Regional, but Sunday night into Monday morning we will see a similar setup to today with more storm chances in the mix.

Thankfully, with the increasing storm chances comes decreasing temperatures over the next week. Highs will remain in the mid to upper 90’s which is a nice change from the triple digit heat we have been seeing over the past few weeks. Despite the cool down, it is still important to wear sunscreen, stay hydrated, and take breaks indoors during peak heating hours. Also, make sure to bring your pets inside during those peak heating hours and keep them hydrated throughout the day.
