As anticipated, there were thunderstorms in eastern New Mexico and parts of the panhandle that fizzled out overnight. The remnants of those storms are bringing in cloud cover this morning. Those clouds are moving in from the north and will clear by 9:00-10:00 am. The rest of the day will see mostly sunny skies with a high of 96° in Lubbock. The wind will increase today, but will be sustained at 10-15 mph. So, that is fairly common for west Texas.
We can expect another round of isolated, to scattered overnight showers and storms in the region. There will be thunderstorms in the high terrain of New Mexico and southeast Colorado this afternoon and evening. We’ll mainly get the cloud debris from those storms, but rule out a few storms, mainly in the northwest counties. Tomorrow afternoon is looking to see more sunshine than clouds and much warmer air. Lubbock will make it up to 100° for the high.
