We’re looking at much colder conditions as you get ready to start your day. The cold front that moved in yesterday evening really did its job. We’re looking at wind out of the north at 20-25 mph, gusting 35-45 mph this morning. Temperatures have dropped down into the low 40s for Lubbock and 30s to the northwest. This afternoon will become sunny, with the wind dropping to 5-10 mph by 6:00 pm. Lubbock will only see a high of 54°.
Overnight, we’re going to look at clear skies and light wind. That is the perfect recipe for a very cold morning. The first freeze will occur area-wide by 7:00 am Saturday. Bring in the pets and plants today, as a freeze will kill plants. You can also cover up plants that are not movable. Lubbock will drop down to 27°, with lows ranging from 18°-23° to the northwest and 29-31° in the Rolling Plains. The good news is that this will kill off mosquitoes and other pests.
