Today turned out to be a much nicer day than yesterday. High temperatures hovered in the upper 60s to lower 70s with sunshine across the board. While you may have needed the heater last night, tonight you’ll be able to turn it off. Temperatures tonight will drop into the upper 40s across the region making for a mild night.
The warming trend continues as temperatures will soar into the mid 80s across the South Plains tomorrow. Winds will be out of the southwest sustained at 15 to 20 mph gusting up to 30 mph. With the breezy conditions and the warmer temperatures, unfortunately this means that fire weather concerns are going to be back. Areas to the north and west of Lubbock are in an elevated risk for fire weather tomorrow and are under a Fire Weather Watch from 1 PM to 9 PM. This means that outdoor burning is highly discouraged and you’ll want to be sure that you dispose of any cigarettes properly and lift up any chains that are hanging from your vehicles.
The warm and windy conditions continue into Tuesday, but by Wednesday temperatures will drop into the 70s and the chance for some isolated rain showers are possible. By Thursday temperatures slide back into the 60s before warming back up into the 70s by Friday.
