LUBBOCK, Texas — Easter Sunday is going to be a hot one. Temperatures in the morning will be in the 60s and will quickly rise into the 90s by the afternoon hours. Sunshine will dominate across West Texas all day with winds out of the southwest from 15-20 mph which puts Lubbock and areas west in an elevated risk for fire weather. This means that outdoor burning is not recommended. If you’re spending all of tomorrow outdoors be sure to stay hydrated and wear sunscreen throughout the entire day.
After tomorrow, things are going to be changing. The beginning of the workweek won’t be as hot as tomorrow, but it will still be warm with temperatures in the 80s. By the evening hours we’ll be watching the potential for some showers and storms to develop. A few of these may be strong to severe as nearly all of the South Plains is under a marginal risk for severe weather during this time.
Fortunately, the rain continues into Tuesday and Wednesday with a 30% coverage in storms. We’ll be watching the potential for these to be strong as well. Along with the showers and storms, temperatures on Wednesday will fall into the mid 60s before rising back up into the 70s by Thursday as the showers and storms exit.
