LUBBOCK, Texas — It was a hot day today with temperatures in the upper 80s to lower 90s across the region. We’ll cool down tomorrow as a cold front drops our temperatures into the 70s. Along with the decrease in temperatures, this cold front will also help to develop thunderstorms during the afternoon and evening hours tomorrow. The expected development of storms are around 4 PM and 5 PM and look to continue into the evening. These storms could be strong to severe as much of the South Plains, including Lubbock, is in a slight risk for severe weather. What this means for us is not everyone will see strong to severe storms, but certainly people in this region could see the potential. Damaging winds and large hail are the primary threats, but an isolated tornado cannot be ruled out.

Most of the strong to severe storms will exit during the overnight hours, but that’s not the end of the rain chances for us. On and off showers are expected to develop on Tuesday and look to continue into the evening hours. There could be a few showers leftover on Wednesday, but most of the rain looks to be gone by Wednesday afternoon. These showers look to be non-severe as we are only in a general thunderstorm category for Tuesday.
