Today marks the first official day of winter and while it may have felt like it this morning, things are going to quickly change. Once the sun begins to rise and we continue throughout the day, temperatures will quickly rise into the 70s across West Texas. Sunshine and warmer air will be the main story for today before a cold front will sweep through the region tomorrow morning dropping our temperatures back into the 50s. We’re not expecting any precipitation from this cold front, but an increase in clouds this weekend is likely along with the drop in temperatures.
Christmas Eve on Monday looks to be a great one with high temperatures in the low 60s with sunshine throughout the day. Clouds will be on the increase on Christmas day as an approaching storm system moves towards the South Plains. Most of Christmas Day looks to be dry, but as you head home during the evening hours there is the possibility for some rain showers during the evening hours.
The better chance for rain comes overnight on Tuesday and into Wednesday with more widespread rain likely. This rain event looks to continue throughout most of the day on Wednesday before moving out of the region by Thursday. A lingering shower is possible Thursday morning, but for the most part we should stay dry.
This event looks to be like a mainly rain event, however, if you are heading to New Mexico this weekend or out west, keep in mind that the higher elevations will see more snow flakes rather than rain, which could make travel difficult on Wednesday.
Have a great weekend!
