KLBK February 17th Evening Forecast

Clouds will continue to increase overnight tonight with temperatures dropping in the mid 20s. Be sure to bundle up tomorrow morning because by the time you wake up tomorrow temperatures will feel like the teens. We’ll warm up into the lower 40s tomorrow afternoon with a mix of sun and clouds. While we’ll stay dry tomorrow afternoon, by the time the overnight hours hit things are going to change.

We’re watching the potential for wintry weather to move into the South Plains late Monday night/early Tuesday morning. Tuesday will be a slick morning commute as a wintry mix will continue to fall. during this time. What’ll start off as a sleet/freezing rain mix here in Lubbock, it’ll soon transition into snow by the morning hours and will continue into the afternoon and early evening hours. Areas to the north of Lubbock are expected to see more of a snowfall rather than a mix. Areas to the south of Lubbock have the possibility of seeing a mainly rain event. However, with temperatures at the surface staying below freezing, it’s very likely that areas to the south could see some freezing rain.

Most of the South Plains is expected to see less than an inch of snowfall. Lubbock’s snow accumulations will remain around a trace to an inch as well. Ice accumulations across Lubbock and the southern South Plains look to be up to a tenth of an inch which could create some major travel problems.

Be sure to leave extra time Tuesday morning and take your time heading home Tuesday evening as roads will be very messy. Be sure to avoid the loop and all bridges and overpasses as well.
