Here is your updated forecast from the KLBK First Warning Weather Center as of Friday morning:
Freezing Fog Advisory:
The National Weather Service in Lubbock and Midland have issued a Freezing Fog Advisory until 10:00 a.m. CST for all of the South Plains (counties on the Caprock) and across the northern Permian Basin due to very low visibility and the possibility of icy spots developing on roadways, bridges and overpasses.
Short Term Forecast:
We’re starting our Friday out with another round of freezing fog across most of the viewing area. To be honest, the fog is more widespread and denser this morning on the Caprock compared to Thursday morning. The is just a little fog across the rolling plains, but visibilities there are much better than here on the Caprock. That’s why the Rolling Plains is not part of the Freezing Fog Advisory in place this morning. The clearing line will slowly work it’s way eastward this morning and should be on edge of the Caprock by midday. It will take a little longer for the clouds and fog to burn off across the Rolling Plains. Mostly sunny conditions will return to all of the area today, along with breezy and warmer weather. Highs today will range from the middle to upper 60s across the South Plains, with middle 50s to lower 60s across the Rolling Plains. We’ll have a clear sky this evening and tonight across the area. We don’t expect fog again overnight. Lows tonight will fall back into the 20s.
Extended Forecast:
We’ll turn cooler on Saturday with highs ranging from the middle 40s to the lower 50s. Even colder air will move into the South Plains and Rolling Plains on New Year’s Eve (Sunday) and New Year’s Day (Monday). Highs on Sunday will range from the middle 20s to the lower 30s. There is a slight chance of a wintry mix on Sunday morning, especially across the Rolling Plains. Highs on Monday will only climb into the lower and middle 20s. We’ll warm back into the lower to middle 30s on Tuesday. Temperatures will warm back into the 40s for Wednesday and Thursday. Overnight lows will range from the middle 10s to lower 20s Sunday morning. It’ll be even colder on Monday and Tuesday morning with lows in the 0s and very low 10s. Lows on Wednesday and Thursday morning will be in the upper 10s to lower 20s.

and we’ll only be in the middle and upper 20s on Monday. We’ll warm back into the middle and upper 30s on Tuesday. Middle 40s will return by the middle of next week. Overnight lows will be in the 20s but it’ll drop into the 0s and 10s for Monday and Tuesday morning. Models continue to hint at the possibility of very light snow on Sunday.
