Here is your updated forecast from the KLBK First Warning Weather Center as of Friday morning:

We’re waking up to patchy fog this morning across the South Plains. This will burn off my mid to late morning. Temperatures will be warmer today with a return of a southwesterly breeze. Highs will top out into the middle 80s. Another cold front will move into the area tonight, dropping lows in the middle and upper 50s. A few models are trying to break out a couple of showers along the front. The weekend looks great with mostly sunny conditions in place. It’ll be a little cooler on Saturday thanks to the front. We’ll drop back into the lower 80s. We may start the morning with some patchy fog in spots.

Extended Forecast:
Temperatures will remain slightly above normal this weekend and into the first half of next week here on the South Plains and Rolling Plains. Highs will range from the lower to middle 80s, with overnight lows in the lower to middle 60s. Average highs for late September/early October are in the very low 80s, with lows in the middle 50s. The forecast will remain dry for now. Models do bring rain chances back into the area by the middle and later part of next week.

Drought Update:
We continue to see some slight improvement in drought conditions across the South Plains and the Rolling Plains thanks to recent rainfall. Moderate to severe stage drought conditions continue to dominate most of the area. There have been some major improvements across the northwestern South Plains and the Rolling Plains, where low end drought conditions are now being reported. Areas across the southeastern South Plains and southern Rolling Plains (from Lake Alan Henry to Lake J.B. Thomas) continue to see severe stage drought conditions.
