Here is your updated forecast from the KLBK First Warning Weather Center as of Friday evening:
Short Term Forecast:
After a warm and windy Friday, some slightly cooler air will return to the South and Rolling Plains on Saturday. We topped out at 84° here in Lubbock, setting a new record high for the day. The old record was 82° from 1915. A cold front will move into the area overnight, shifting our westerly and southwesterly wind back to the northeast. It’ll still be rather mild overnight with middle 40s across the area. After highs in the 80s on Friday, high temperatures on Saturday will range from the middle 60s to the very low 70s. It will be breezy at times but not too terribly windy.
Extended Forecast:
Long range forecast models are still not looking promising for any precipitation chances across the South Plains and the Rolling Plains. A system Tuesday night and Wednesday morning will pass to our north across the Texas and Oklahoma Panhandles. However, one of the long range American forecast models (the GFS) is showing a chance for rain returning next Friday. The European model (ECMWF), however, it totally dry next Friday. We’ll have to wait and see what pans out. Otherwise, mild to warm weather will continue until at least midweek across the South Plains and the Rolling Plains. We’re back into the 70s for highs on Sunday and Monday. We’ll fall back into the 60s on Tuesday and back into the 50s Wednesday and Thursday. Next Friday’s highs will depend on the track of the potential system. The GFS model is showing only 40s for highs, while the ECMWF is showing highs in the 50s. Overnight lows will be in the 30s Sunday morning, 40s Monday and Tuesday morning and back into the 30s for Wednesday, Thursday and Friday mornings.
