July started off cooler compared to June, where temperatures were into the upper 90s and triple-digits. We’re 16 days into July and we haven’t had any triple-digit heat yet, but unfortunately things are going to change very soon. Today will be the last day with temperatures near average and the chance for precipitation. Today, highs will get into the mid 90s in Lubbock, with areas off the Caprock getting into the upper 90s. There is a chance for isolated showers and storms across the South Plains today during the afternoon and evening hours, but for the most part we’ll stay dry with a partly cloudy sky.

Things quickly change tomorrow as high pressure begins to build into the South Plains and the chance for rain decreases while the threat for hotter temperatures increases. Temperatures tomorrow will get into the upper 90s in Lubbock with very few clouds across the area. Wednesday temperatures return back to the triple-digits for the first time in July and is expected to continue through the rest of the week and possibly into the weekend. Remember to stay hydrated and wear sunscreen.

Have a great week!
