Today marked the fifth consecutive day in July and the 24th day in 2018 of triple-digit heat in Lubbock and across the South Plains. The high today in Lubbock reached 104° tying the 2003 record. If you’re looking for a break in the heat, you’re in luck. We’re tracking the arrival of a weak cold front tomorrow that will bring temperature down and have the rain chances back into the forecast.
Tomorrow, we’ll start off mild and clear, but as we head throughout the temperatures will get into the mid to upper 90s and clouds will begin to build across the region. There is a slight chance for precipitation especially to the north, as the norther half of the South Plains is under a thunderstorm outlook tomorrow. But as we head on into the week the rain chances will get better.
The presence of cloud cover will continue through the rest of the week which will also keep our temperatures down. Highs on Tuesday will get into the low 90s which will be a nice relief in the heat for all of us. There is also a chance for morning and afternoon storms at 10%. These are not expected to be severe as we are only in a thunderstorm risk for Tuesday.
The rest of the week looks to be mainly cloudy with temperatures fluctuating slightly and chances for rain continue.
Enjoy the break in the heat and have a great week!
