Happy Fourth of July everyone! It was a fantastic day for the Fourth of July. Very few areas in the southern portion of our viewing area saw some rain during the evening hours, but for the most part, almost all of the South Plains got to see abundant sunshine today for the Fourth. Even though there was no rain to hinder Fourth of July plans, it was hot outside. The high in Lubbock reached 98° with some other places seeing tripe-digit heat. If you’re planning on seeing fireworks tonight, or if you’re continuing the celebration tonight, it will be a spectacular one to do so. Temperatures overnight will be relatively warm, dropping down to 70° overnight in Lubbock with a mostly clear sky capping off a wonderful evening to a spectacular Fourth of July.

Today will be the last day for a while that we will have temperatures into the upper 90s as we are watching for the potential for a *slight* cool down for the rest of the week into the weekend. Temperatures in Lubbock are expected to be into the upper 80s and possibly evening gracing 90° for the next couple of days. While we don’t have any chances for rain in the forecast for tomorrow, we are tracking more rain for the beginning of the weekend and lasting throughout the week. While it is much needed rain, we are going to see higher chances for precipitation during the weekend which could impact some of you’re outdoor activities for the weekend. The good news is that these storms are not expected to be severe as of now. Stick with the KLBK Weather Team for all of the latest updates on this upcoming rain.

Have a great rest of the evening, and Happy Fourth of July!
