Here is your updated forecast from the KLBK First Warning Weather Center as of early Monday afternoon:
Short Term Forecast:
Quiet weather is expected across the South Plains and the Rolling Plains on this Monday afternoon. High clouds will stream into the area, keeping us mostly sunny to partly cloudy. Highs will top out in the lower 60s this afternoon. We’ll be partly cloudy tonight with lows in the middle 30s. An area of low pressure to our southwest will move into and across the region tonight and on Tuesday. Forecast models are showing a slight chance for rain across the southeastern and eastern counties of the South Plains and into the Rolling Plains. I’ve got a a 10-percent chance of rain for Tuesday. Highs on Tuesday will be in the lower 60s.
Extended Forecast:
Long range forecast models continue to point toward an very cold air mass diving down across Texas this upcoming holiday weekend. There still remains some question as to chances for wintry precipitation by late weekend. Otherwise, the last few days of fall and the first day of winter will be on the mild side. Highs will be in the 60s through midweek. We’ll quickly jump into the lower 70s on Thursday before a cold front knocks us back into the 40s for Friday and Saturday. The very cold air mass should arrive on Sunday (Christmas Eve) with highs in the 30s. The American and Canadian forecast model runs late this morning and early this afternoon are showing a slight chance of snow on Christmas Eve. The European forecast model is still keeping the snow to our north and northwest. I’m not ready just yet to add precipitation chances on Sunday. If trends continue with the next few model runs, I’ll start adding in precipitation chances for Sunday.

Winter Solstice:
The Winter Solstice will occur at 10:28 a.m. CST on Thursday, December 21 here on the South Plains and the Rolling Plains. It’s the shortest day of the year and the longest night of the year.
