Wind Chill Advisory:
The National Weather Service had issued a Wind Chill Advisory for most of the South Plains for tonight and Tuesday morning. The advisory be in effect from midnight to 9:00 a.m. Tuesday. Wind chill values tonight and Tuesday morning will drop to -10° to -5° across the area. 

Short Term Forecast:
Brr! Lubbock officially dropped down to 4° this morning at the airport. It dropped down to 0° at Muleshoe, Silverton, Tulia, Happy and Vigo Park according to data from the West Texas Mesonet. We’ll warm into the lower to middle 20s across the South Plains and the Rolling Plains on New Year’s Day. Another very cold night is on tap with lows back in the 0s and very low 10s under a partly cloudy sky. Wind chill values are expected to drop below zero tonight and Tuesday morning. A Wind Chill Advisory is in effect from midnight to 9:00 a.m. Tuesday for areas on the Caprock. Highs will climb into the upper 20s to lower 30s on Tuesday under a mostly sunny sky.

Extended Forecast:
Warmer weather returns by the middle and later half of the week. Highs will climb back into the 40s on Wednesday and Thursday. Lows Wednesday morning will be in the 10s and warm back into the lower 20s on Thursday morning. We’ll warm back into the 50s on Friday. How about highs in the 60s next weekend? Lows will be in the 20s Friday morning but will warm into the 30s for next weekend. For now, the first full week of 2018 looks to be dry with no precipitation chances for now.
