Today was a cool and wet start to the workweek as overcast conditions only allow our temperatures to reach into the upper 60s to low 70s, but on and off rain made it feel very damp. While we didn’t have any severe weather this morning, more severe weather can be expected this evening and overnight tonight. A large upper-level trough digging into the panhandle and through the Permian Basin will being the chance for severe weather tonight. Much of the southern and eastern South Plains is under a slight risk for severe weather tonight. The main threats for tonight’s weather will be large hail, damaging winds, localized flooding, and an isolated tornado cannot be ruled out.
The storms look to arrive west of Lubbock later this evening around 8/10 PM but the main line of storms impacting the central South Plains and Lubbock around midnight.
The rain continues into tomorrow at 40%, but thankfully it does not look to be as severe. Most of the rain will impact your morning commute tomorrow but a lingering shower is possible during the afternoon hours.
We dry out on Wednesday, but the rain looks to continue by the end of the week into the weekend.
Temperatures are finally starting to feel like Fall with highs only getting into the upper 60s to low 70s most of the week, with the possibility of seeing the low to mid 60s by next week.
