Here is your updated forecast from the KLBK First Warning Weather Center as of Saturday evening:

Clouds will be on the decrease this evening and tonight, along with rain chances, as the low pressure area moves away from the South Plains and the Rolling Plains. A partly cloudy sky will return overnight to the area. It’ll be cooler tonight with lows in the upper 30s to lower 40s. The wind will become light as well. It’ll be a beautiful day on Sunday with a sunny to mostly sunny sky. Highs will climb into the upper 60s to lower 70s. The wind will remain light on Sunday.

Extended Forecast:
Milder weather returns on Sunday across the South Plains and the Rolling Plains with highs in the upper 60s and lower 70s. Highs will climb into the middle to upper 70s on Monday. We’ll drop back into the middle 70s on Tuesday and into the middle 60s on Wednesday. High temperatures on Thursday, Friday and Saturday will range from the lower to the middle 70s.

Lows Monday morning will be the middle 40s and will climb into the upper 40s to lower 50s Tuesday morning. Morning lows Wednesday, Thursday and Friday morning will be in the lower to middle 40s. We’ll be in the upper 40s next Saturday morning.

Forecast models are in agreement with some rain chances across the South Plains and the Rolling Plains for Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday. It looks like the better chances of rain would be on Wednesday and Friday. However, I’ll mention the chance of thunderstorms Tuesday evening and on Thursday and Saturday. At this point, I’m keeping precipitation chances in the 20% range, although model data is going with higher rain chances at this point. I’ll adjust precipitation chances accordingly as new model data comes in over the next couple of days.

Drought Update:
The latest update of the U.S. Drought Monitor indicates no change in drought status across the South Plains and the Rolling Plains since last week. Moderate stage drought conditions remain in place across the far southwestern portions of the South Plains. Severe and extreme stage drought conditions continue over for most fo the South Plains and the Rolling Plains. Exceptional state drought conditions are still indicated across extreme northern Swisher, Briscoe and Hall County, as well as a small portion of King and Cottle County. As of Saturday evening, 1.07″ of rain has fallen in Lubbock at the airport in 2018.
