Good Sunday Evening!
Short Term Forecast: It turned out to be a nice Sunday across the South Plains and the Rolling Plains. Temperatures warmed well into the 80s across the area. Lubbock topped out at 84° which was 2-degrees from tying the record high for the day. The weather will remain quiet tonight but model data is showing some low clouds may develop overnight and into Monday morning, mainly east of Interstate 27. These clouds will burn off my mid-morning with mostly sunny conditions on Monday. Lows tonight will be in the lower 50s and highs Monday will be in the low 80s.
Temperature Roller Coaster This Week: After highs in the 80s on Monday, a backdoor cold front will slip into the area on Tuesday and will set up quite a contrast on temperatures. Areas to the north, northeast and east of the front will have high temperatures in the 50s and 60s, while areas to the south, west and southwest will warm up into the 70s. We expect low 60s here in the Lubbock area, but it could be a a little colder or warmer depending on frontal position on Tuesday. An even stronger front will move in late Tuesday night and early Wednesday morning. Highs will fall into the 40s and 50s across the area on Wednesday. We’ll rebound into the 60s on Thursday and into the lower 70s on Friday and Saturday. Another late weekend front will drop us back into the 60s on Sunday. Overnight lows will be in the upper 40s and lower 50s the next couple of nights, then fall back into the 30s midweek. Lows will climb back into the 40s by the late week and into the weekend.
Precipitation Chances: Scattered showers are expected across the South Plains and the Rolling Plains Tuesday afternoon until midday on Wednesday. The majority of the precipitation will be a cool rain. However, as temperatures drop overnight Tuesday and into Wednesday morning, there is chance some light snow could mix in over the northwestern South Plains. Temperatures will play a major factor on the amount of snow that could develop. A significant winter weather event is not expected at this point, as well as no travel issues over the northwestern counties.
