Short Term Forecast:
We had cooler weather across the South Plains and the Rolling Plains on this Easter Sunday. Highs this afternoon ranged from lower 50s to the middle 60s. It was cooler across the Rolling Plains compared to areas on the Caprock. We’ll stay mostly cloudy tonight with lows ranging from the upper 30s to the middle 40s. There is a very small chance for drizzle across the Rolling Plains. It’s possible there could be some drizzle in spots on the Caprock. Clouds will be on the decrease on Monday with mostly sunny conditions returning by afternoon. It will be breezy and warmer with our highs ranging fro the lower to the middle 80s across the South Plains. Highs will warm into the middle to upper 70s across the Rolling Plains. Fire weather conditions are expected for areas along and west of Interstate 27/U.S. Highway 87 corridor.
Fire Weather Concerns Monday Afternoon & Evening:
The National Weather Service in Lubbock has issued a Red Flag Warning from 2:00 PM to 9:00 PM CDT Monday for Yoakum County, Parmer County, Cochran County and Bailey County.
The National Weather Service in Lubbock has issued a Fire Weather Watch from 2:00 PM to 9:00 PM CDT Monday for Hale County, Swisher County, Lynn County and Lubbock County.
Extended Forecast:
After a warm day in the lower to middle 80s on Monday, highs will drop back into the middle to upper 60s on Tuesday. We’ll hold high temperatures in the middle 60s on Wednesday. It’ll quickly warm back into the middle 80s on Thursday and slip back into the lower 80s on Friday. Highs will drop back into the middle 70s by Saturday. Models are showing highs next Sunday ranging from the middle 80s to the lower 90s.
Overnight lows will be in the upper 40s to lower 50s Tuesday morning. A light freeze is expected for many locations Wednesday morning, with lows ranging from the upper 20s to the middle 30s. Lows will climb back into the middle 40s Thursday morning and into the middle 50s Friday morning. Saturday and Sunday morning lows will range from the middle to the upper 40s.

Forecast models overall are showing a dry and breezy/windy pattern ahead for the new work and school week across the South Plains and the Rolling Plains.
Drought Update:
Despite some much needed rainfall across the South Plains and the Rolling Plains this past week, severe to extreme stage drought conditions remain in place across our area. As of Sunday evening, 1.07″ of rain has fallen, so far, this year in Lubbock.
