KLBK Sunday PM Weather (5/13/18)

Here is your updated forecast from the KLBK First Warning Weather Center as of Sunday evening:

Short Term Forecast:
Scattered showers and a few thunderstorms were developing this afternoon along the edge of the Caprock and across the Rolling Plains. Thunderstorm chances will continue into the evening hours. The primary threat will be large hail and damaging wind. Otherwise, it will remain partly cloudy and a little breezy this evening and overnight across the South Plains and the Rolling Plains. Lows tonight will range from the middle 60s to the lower 70s. Showers and a few thunderstorms are expected to develop along and east of the dryline late into the afternoon and into the evening hours on Monday. Any storm could be strong to severe. Otherwise, expect partly cloudy conditions in the morning, then increasing clouds in the afternoon. Highs will range from the upper 80s to the lower 90s. It will be breezy at times. 


Extended Forecast:
With the dryline in the area, there is a slight chance a late afternoon and evening thunderstorm each day this week and into the early part of the weekend. The better thunderstorm chances will be Monday PM and Tuesday PM. The position of the dryline, of course, will dictate who gets that chance of a thunderstorm.

Highs will range from the upper 80s to the lower 90s for the first half of the week. We’ll start to warm back up by the later half of the week and into the early part of the weekend. Highs will be in the middle 90s Thursday, upper 90s Friday and back into the middle 80s on Saturday. A front will cool highs back into the middle 80s on Sunday. Average highs for mid-May are in the middle 80s. 

Low temperatures this week will stay into the 60s. Average lows for this time of year are in the middle 50s. 

Drought Update:
Drought conditions have started to increase across the South Plains and the Rolling Plains once again. The last update of the U.S. Drought Monitor indicates most of the South Plains is in severe to extreme drought. There are some spots in exceptional drought across the north-central South Plains. The drought is a little worse across the Rolling Plains where extreme and exceptional drought conditions are in place.
