KLBK Thursday Afternoon Weather Update (12/21/17)

Here is your updated forecast from the KLBK First Warning Weather Center as of early Thursday afternoon:

Short Term Forecast:
So much for it being a mostly sunny afternoon here on the South Plains and the Rolling Plains. Forecast models did not handle this cloud cover very well this morning. The clouds are still with us and will continue to be with us throughout the afternoon and into the evening. With more clouds around, temperatures will be a few degrees cooler this afternoon. I’ve dropped afternoon highs back into the upper 60s and lower 70s. A cold front is still on track to arrive tonight in the area. We’ll be mostly cloudy with lows in the middle to upper 20s. The clouds will stick around into Friday morning, but models are showing clearing across the area Friday afternoon.

Extended Forecast:
Colder weather returns to the South Plains and the Rolling Plains on Friday with highs only in the lower to middle 40s. We’ll quickly warm back into the middle and upper 50s on Saturday. Another cold front will arrive Saturday night, dropping us back into the upper 30s to middle 40s for highs on Christmas Eve. We’ll warm into the middle 50s on Christmas day and stay in the middle 50s into early next week. Overnight lows will be in the 20s into the weekend and also early next week. The forecast models look dry over the next 7 days.

Winter Solstice:
The Winter Solstice occurred at 10:28 a.m. CST this morning here on the South Plains and the Rolling Plains. Today is the shortest day of the year and the longest night of the year.
