Here is your updated forecast from the KLBK First Warning Weather Center as of Thursday morning:

Short Term Forecast:
Light snow was falling overnight and early this morning across the far southwestern and southern South Plains, as well as across the far southern Rolling Plains and the northern Permian Basin. A quick check of the DriveTexas.org website from TxDOT was showing no travel issues across any portions of our viewing area. However, there could be a few slick spots where there has been some snow this morning. Otherwise, we’re all starting the day out with cloudy conditions. Gradual clearing will take place later this morning and into the afternoon from north to south. We should all be seeing mostly sunny conditions returning by afternoon. There may be still some lingering clouds across the far southern counties late in the day. Highs today will be on the chilly side with only upper 30s and lower 40s. A north-northeasterly breeze will make it feel even chillier. We’ll be mostly clear tonight with lows falling back into the lower and middle 20s. We’ll be mainly sunny and milder on Friday with highs back into the middle 50s.

Extended Forecast:
Warmer weather will return to the South Plains and the Rolling Plains this weekend and into next week as high temperatures warm back into the 60s. Overnight lows will be in the upper 20s to lower 30s over the weekend, but will warm back into the lower and middle 30s next week. Long range forecast models show another dry spell returning to the South Plains and the Rolling Plains.

Drought Update:
What little precipitation we received from this recent activity will not help the growing drought conditions across the South Plains and the Rolling Plains. Below is the latest update of the U.S. Drought Monitor that was released by the government this morning.
