Here is your updated forecast from the KLBK First Warning Weather Center as of Tuesday afternoon:

Short Term Forecast:
*** The National Weather Service in Midland has issued a Heat Advisory for Borden & Scurry County until 8:00 PM Tuesday. ***

Our forecast here in the short term will remain hot and dry across the South Plains and the Rolling Plains. Triple-digit temperatures are once again expected across the area on this afternoon. We’ll be sunny to mostly sunny today with highs in the lower 100s (between 100° and 105°) with a southerly breeze. Expect mostly clear conditions this evening and tonight with lows ranging from the middle 60s to the lower 70s. The hot weather will continue into Wednesday with more triple-digit heat expected.

Extended Forecast:
Hot weather will dominate the forecast across the South Plains and the Rolling Plains for the rest of the week. Triple-digit heat will hold in place across the South Plains and the Rolling Plains through Saturday. Our hottest days will be on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday. Models show high temperatures falling back into the 90s by Sunday and Monday. Average high temperatures for late May and early June are in the middle 80s.

Overnight lows will be stay on the warm side with upper 60s and lower 70s expected each day. Average low temperatures for late May and early June  should be in the upper 50s and lower 60s

The forecast looks to remain dry over the next several days. Model runs this morning are hinting at a slight chance for thunderstorms Friday evening, as well as over the weekend and into Monday. My confidence for these rain chances are low at this point, so I’m going to hold off adding in rain chances.

Drought Update:
Our recent rainfall did help improve drought conditions across the South Plains and Rolling Plains. Most of the area was dropped back to severe stage drought status. However, areas that didn’t receive as much rain did stay in extreme to exception status. Below is the graphical look at the latest update of the U.S. Drought Monitor that was released on Thursday (May 24).
