May 21st, 2018 evening weather

Happy Monday everyone! After an active weather weekend, we started the work week with calm, sunny, and warm conditions. High temperatures will move into the low 80’s today with another chance for showers and thunderstorms this afternoon and this evening. The good news is that the Storm Prediction Center just has us in the general thunderstorm category, with the severe storms remaining to our West in New Mexico. Storm chances will continue through Wednesday with the South Plains upgrading to the Marginal Risk Category tomorrow and Wednesday. These precipitation chances will keep our temperatures from heating up too much over the next few days, but as soon as the storms clear out, we will see a rapid warming trend with highs moving into the mid 90 to the triple digit range for your Memorial Day weekend. Sunshine will return on Thursday and stick around throughout the weekend, but we are watching for another round of storms to return as early as Saturday.
