Happy Thursday everyone! The record for today is 102 degrees, set back in 2012. With ample ridging over the region, our temperatures will reach close to the record, moving back into the triple digits. The ridge will flatten slightly tomorrow and Saturday which will allow temperatures to drop into the upper 90’s with sunshine expected to stick around through Sunday afternoon. Over the next few days, the hot temperatures, dry conditions, and strong winds will bring the threat of fire weather back to the South Plains so make sure to be cautious while barbecuing and make sure to put out cigarettes completely. Our next cold front will push across the region Saturday night through Sunday morning, bringing us another dip in temperatures by Sunday afternoon. Then we watch for our next chance for showers and thunderstorms to return to the forecast on Memorial Day and Tuesday so make sure to stay weather aware.
