As many have noticed, severe weather season is in full swing and we have more severe storms on the way. The majority of the South Plains is under a Marginal Risk today, with the far northwestern South Plains under a Slight risk for strong to severe storms. Wind threats will be high with large hail expected. We will also see an isolated tornado threat for the majority of the region. Time frame will be this afternoon through about 1AM Tuesday morning.
Then Tuesday our severe weather threat increases dramatically. The Central South Plains will be under an Enhanced Risk for severe storms with the far Eastern and Western counties under a Slight Risk. The Enhanced risk does include Lubbock, Hale, and Hockley counties. Large hail of 2″ or more and damaging wind gusts of 70+ MPH are expected throughout the day with a significant risk for tornadoes in the region. Storms will begin as early as 1PM and continue through 6AM on Wednesday.
Make sure to bring your pets indoors and cover your vehicles over the next few days. If you live in a trailer home, have a contingency plan for Tuesday. Please avoid travel during these time frames and if you have to travel, take it slow. Stay weather aware and keep it on KLBK. Temperatures over the next two days will remain in the low to mid-80’s with sunshine expected for the first half of each day. Wednesday into early Thursday another cold front will push through and that will drop our temperatures into the 60’s for the remainder of the work week. Storm chances will continue but will be diminished on Thursday and Friday.
