May 7th, 2019 Evening Weather

Severe weather season is in full swing and our severe weather threat has increased dramatically today and continuing through about 7AM tomorrow morning. The majority of the South Plains is under an Enhanced Risk with the Northeastern counties under a Moderate Risk for severe storms. The Enhanced risk does include Lubbock, Hale, and Hockley counties. This means that we will see widespread, long-lived severe storms that will bring large hail with diameters of 2-3″ or more (golf ball to baseball sized), numerous strong tornadoes of EF2 or greater, damaging wind gusts of 80+ MPH, and flash flooding throughout the next 24 hours.

Storms will begin as early as 1PM but becoming severe quickly by 4PM and continue through 7AM on Wednesday. Make sure to bring your pets indoors and cover your vehicles over the next 24 hours. If you live in a trailer home, have a contingency plan – these are NOT safe to be in during these types of events. Please avoid travel during these time frames and if you have to travel, take it slow and pull over if your visibility is impaired. We are expecting power outages, debris in the roadways and flooding so remember to turn around, don’t drown. Stay weather aware and keep it on KLBK. We will be on air, on the KLBK News Facebook Page doing Fabebook live updates throughout the day as well as on EverythingLubbock.com to keep you advised.

Temperatures will remain in the low to mid-80’s tomorrow with sunshine expected for the majority of the day. However, Wednesday into early Thursday another cold front will push through and that will drop our temperatures into the 60’s for the remainder of the work week. Storm chances will continue but will be diminished on Thursday and Friday.
